Geese: A New Generation of Rock and Roll

Every so often, a band comes along that captures the chaotic brilliance of youth while crafting music with surprising depth and maturity. Enter Geese, the Brooklyn-based band whose experimental indie rock has drawn comparisons to bands like Television, Radiohead, and The Strokes, while carving out a bold, unmistakable identity of their own.

The group - comprised of Cameron Winter (vocals, keyboards), Emily Green (guitar), Dominic DiGesu (bass), and Max Bassin (drums) - started as high school friends playing in basements and bedrooms. Initially, the band didn’t see their future extending past high school graduation in 2020. Some members had even received acceptance letters from prestigious schools like Oberlin College and Berklee College of Music, planning to leave the group behind. But fate had other ideas. Their self-produced demos began circulating online, catching the attention of heavyweight labels like 4AD, Sub Pop, and Fat Possum. Ultimately, Geese signed with Partisan Records, propelling their music into the spotlight.

3D Country

In 2023, Geese released their second studio album, 3D Country, produced by James Ford. The album’s ambitious, genre-hopping nature showcased their knack for sonic innovation, with standout singles like Cowboy Nudes, 3D Country, Mysterious Love, and I See Myself. They followed it up with the EP 4D Country later that year, offering fans even more insight into their vibrant, off-kilter creative process.

However, 2023 also marked a significant shift for the band. Longtime guitarist Foster Hudson announced his departure to focus on academic pursuits, leaving the remaining members to forge ahead as a four-piece. Despite the change, Geese’s trajectory only seems to be climbing higher.

A Sound That Defies Boundaries

Geese’s sound reflects their broad influences and daring approach to music. Critics have drawn parallels to New York legends like Television, The Strokes, and LCD Soundsystem, as well as British contemporaries like Black Midi and Squid. But Geese doesn’t stop at being derivative - they layer elements of post-punk, prog, and dance-punk to create music that’s as eclectic as it is cohesive.

Vocals by Cameron Winter further amplify the band’s unique identity. Winter’s range is staggering: in a single song, he can leap from a falsetto reminiscent of Thom Yorke to a swaggering pout evocative of Julian Casablancas or Alex Turner, and even deliver raw, angular yelps à la Mark E. Smith. The result is music that keeps listeners on their toes, rewarding both short attention spans and deep dives into their albums.

What’s Next for Geese?

With two acclaimed projects (Projector and 3D Country), an evolving lineup, and a growing reputation for their explosive live shows, Geese is poised to become a defining act of their generation. In 2024, they joined forces with psych-rock giants King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard for a series of unforgettable tour dates, introducing their music to even larger audiences and proving they can hold their own alongside one of the most dynamic bands in modern rock.

Whether you’re drawn to the jagged riffs of Low Era, the expansive storytelling of 3D Country, or the kinetic energy of Cowboy Nudes, there’s something in their catalog for every adventurous listener. The band is Geese - a signal that the next wave of rock is here, and it’s bold, innovative, and uncompromising.
