"Calling" is not just a debut album for the UK-based singer and instrumentalist, Cherise; it's a testament to her eclectic roots, a lyrical homage to her heritage, and a powerful display of her wide-ranging musical talents. This album is an intimate journey that bridges the gap between R&B, soul, jazz, and contemporary pop while celebrating Cherise's second-generation Jamaican-British identity.

The eponymous track, "Calling," serves as an enchanting introduction to the album and to Cherise's nostalgic narrative. The lyrics, artfully reflective of her upbringing, are cradled by a soothing guitar melody that sets a timeless ambiance. Cherise's powerful vocals, subtly echoing her familial connections in Jamaica and England, create a sense of home, both tangible and internal.

"Calling" is a reflection of Cherise's unique perspective, one that interweaves a traditional familial foundation with an ambitious drive towards artistic exploration. The singable chorus, "Can you hear it / call my name? / Hear it calling me home," holds the palpable influence of gospel music, adding a communal spirit to the mix, reminding listeners of the joy of familial gatherings.

The album's tracks offer listeners a rich sonic feast, from the acoustic charm of "Not A Love Song" that smoothly transitions into an orchestral neo-soul, to the infectiously upbeat "2 Steppin'", which is an auditory embodiment of a casual teatime in a British setting. "Summer Love," with its radiant energy, is a captivating confession of self-embrace, as Cherise expresses her personality and desires without reserve.

The vibrant blend of "Night Moves" showcases Cherise's dedication to her craft with an elegantly recited spoken word segment. Meanwhile, the R&B track "Secrets" captures the listener with its mellow production, allowing Cherise's vocals to shine in all their glory.

Cherise's debut is an impressive panorama of styles, embodying her diverse talents in a mix that feels both contemporary and timeless. Her irresistible vocals coupled with honest, soulful songwriting leaves an indelible imprint, signaling her arrival on the global music scene.

A proven collaborator with a range of accomplished artists, Cherise is fast establishing herself as one of the most passionately talented musicians in the UK. This album is not only a musical masterpiece but a bold proclamation of her roots and identity. "Calling" echoes her self-proclaimed status as an "island girl with a city life," inviting listeners into her world. This debut is a calling, not just for Cherise, but for all of us, to acknowledge and celebrate our identities while dancing to the rhythm of life.
