Inhaler - Open Wide

Irish rock outfit Inhaler has returned with their third studio album, Open Wide, an electrifying statement that pushes their sound further while staying true to their anthemic roots. As the band continues to carve out their own identity beyond comparisons to frontman Elijah Hewson’s famous father (yes, Bono), Open Wide proves that Inhaler is a force to be reckoned with in modern rock.

Expanding Their Sound

While their earlier records introduced a confident mix of arena-ready indie rock and shimmering pop melodies, Open Wide takes a bolder approach. The album is drenched in expansive soundscapes, with soaring choruses, lush instrumentation, and a heavier emphasis on atmospheric textures. It’s a collection of tracks that feel both urgent and timeless, capturing the band’s growing maturity and refined sonic direction.

Standout Tracks

• “Eddie In The Darkness” – A moody and gripping opener that builds from a simmering tension into a euphoric release, setting the stage for the album’s dynamic energy.

• “Billy (Yeah Yeah Yeah)” – A punchy, riff-heavy track that embraces a raw, garage-rock spirit while maintaining Inhaler’s signature melodic flair.

• “Even Though” – This song leans into melancholic introspection, with sweeping instrumentation and emotive lyricism that hits deep.

• “Open Wide” – The title track is a soaring anthem packed with heart-pounding drums, shimmering synths, and a chorus that begs to be sung in unison.

• “X-Ray” – A late-album highlight, this track blends hypnotic grooves with an undeniable swagger, showcasing the band’s ability to craft infectious melodies with edge.

• “Little Things” – Closing the album on an introspective note, this track delivers a hauntingly beautiful finale with lush harmonies and reflective lyricism.

Lyrical Growth & Thematic Depth

One of the biggest takeaways from Open Wide is the band’s evolution in songwriting. While their earlier work leaned heavily on themes of longing and youthful optimism, this album feels more introspective and self-assured. Themes of heartbreak, self-discovery, and navigating the uncertainties of life permeate the lyrics, adding a deeper emotional resonance to their music. Hewson’s vocals, at times raw and urgent, bring these themes to life in a way that feels both personal and universal.

Final Verdict

With Open Wide, Inhaler proves they’re not just another indie rock band riding on nostalgia - they’re pushing forward, experimenting, and refining their craft. The album balances anthemic, festival-ready moments with more intimate and exploratory songwriting, solidifying Inhaler as one of the most exciting young bands in rock today. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering them, this album is a must-listen for anyone craving modern rock with depth and energy.
